About Meadhbh N.
Key experience
From hotel websites to career websites
After college, I took an internship web designer position with a local HR company and developed a passion for building websites. I then moved onto working for a direct booking platform that dealt with Hotels. My responsibilities included creating and updating hotel websites, newsletters and marketing graphics. I enjoyed the work but wanted a more challenging role, where I could grow my skills and gain experience so I applied to a Recruitment Marketing company called Clinch. I was hired as a web designer, building out the career websites for new clients and soon was onboarding clients and managing these projects. We were then acquired by PageUp which expanded my role and meant working with a larger team and more clients. I travelled to Australia to help train our new colleagues and talk them through our career site processes. I also got a chance to get more involved in other areas of the organisation such as UX Design.
Current position
I work with clients to build out career sites reflecting their brand.
I mainly work on building out career websites using our platform. I will utilise brand assets and resources provided by the clients to ensure all sites are on brand and consistent with the brand's corporate site. I use the bootstrap framework and I create custom html elements for the career site when needed such as complex carousels along with branded email templates for recruitment marketing. I also work on existing sites where design changes are needed and sometimes design demo websites for sales. I run accessibility check on the websites and take care of any CSS or content changes that are needed. I interview clients for with the UX team to gain insight into how they are interacting with the system. I create best practise and training content for other web designers joining the team.
Main motivation
I enjoy the creative aspect of building career sites.
I enjoy the creative process of building out a full career site for each client. I receive brand guidelines and study their corporate site and figure out what works and how to make each site look great. I work with the web design team to ensure the client is happy and that we have completed the project to the highest standard. As I have been working on career sites for 5 years now I feel I know the best ways to display content and how to use imagery and colours to give the website the right look and feel.
Top advice
Never be afraid to ask for help
It is so important to ask for support from your team when you need it. Your team has lots of individual skill sets and sometimes you just need a different perspective to solve something you've been struggling with. Being able to ask fro and provide support is a huge part of a good work culture and makes everyone's job easier. In my experience in the workplace a problem shared is truly a problem halved.
Greatest achievement
Introducing our platform and training new colleagues in Melbourne
When we were acquired by PageUp I travelled to Australia with my manager and we introduced the teams there to our product. I ran training sessions with Professional Services on using the platform and continued to support them throughout the acquisition process, including creating training and support documentation.
